Дорога как главный нарратив: Камила Рустамбекова

Kamila looks back on her journey, from the first photographs she took as a child with a camera she was given as a gift to her debut film, Fairy Tale, which was screened on ARTE/ZDF, and her acceptance into the Netherlands Film Academy.

In the new episode of Yuzma-Yuz, Kamila talks about how the spaces around her have shaped the way she sees the world, from 139 Documentary gallery to Sobir Rakhimov Street, a place tied to many of her memories.

Today, Kamila sees her path as a constant movement between countries, cities and personal stories. That movement has become not only part of her experience but also a source of new images and ideas for contemporary Uzbek art.

For Kamila, the road is the main story of her life. She recalls her daily journeys from Yangiyul to Tashkent and, today, the constant movement between Tashkent and Amsterdam.

She explores memory and the visual language of contemporary Uzbek society. In her series Home, Field and Flow, Kamila turns to rural labour and the legacy of colonialism, while her film Fairy Tale examines questions of acceptance and love. Her photographs and films have been featured by Nowness Asia, It’s Nice That and Fotofilmic, and she is a member of the international Women Photograph community.
