At the UN headquarters in New York, a meeting was held between the Chairperson of the Foundation for the Development of Culture and Arts of Uzbekistan, Gayane Umerova, and the UN Deputy Secretary-General and UNDP Deputy Administrator, Haoliang Xu.
There, the parties discussed possible cooperation, including the development of culture, preservation of heritage, and support for creativity. Educational programs and the strengthening of international dialogue through art were especially emphasized.
In addition, Umerova discussed with Xu the preparations for the Aral summit in Nukus and the 43rd session of the General Conference and UNESCO, which will be held in 2025 in Samarkand.
General Conference – not in Paris for the first time
In 2025, Samarkand will host the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference. This significant event will be the first in the last 40 years to be held outside of Paris, where such meetings have traditionally been held.
The main venue for the session will be the Silk Road Samarkand tourist complex. The organizing committee responsible for the event will prepare the infrastructure, including equipping the halls with modern technical and telecommunications equipment. Also, facilities in Tashkent and Samarkand will be prepared, and the necessary hotel fund will be provided for the participants.
