The former building of the Geological Museum on Taras Shevchenko Street in Tashkent will be preserved as a cultural heritage site. This was reported by the Cultural Heritage Agency, responding to residents' concerns about the demolition of neighboring buildings. At the same time, it is planned to build a multi-story residential building nearby.
The museum building, built in 1928, is included in the National List of Cultural Heritage Sites. Since the end of 2024, the museum has moved to the new campus of the University of Geological Sciences in the Mirzo-Ulugbek district, and the old building is currently empty.
In 2022, it was sold to a private investor who pledged to preserve its historical appearance. The Scientific Expert Council approved the construction in a protected zone, but with the condition of maintaining a 50-meter distance from the museum.
The investor was also instructed to carry out work to strengthen the building and protect it from moisture. Experts F. Usmanov, H. Sultanov, and M. Mumin-Okhunova will oversee the process.
