The song was co-written with the Swedish Persian-born producer Ilya, known for his work with Ariana Grande. The name "Azizam" translates from Persian as "my dear" or "my beloved" — this is a common addressing to close people.
Sheeran noted that while working on the track, he discovered similarities between Persian and Irish folk motifs.
"Although it sounds different from my previous works, 'Azizam' feels familiar to me. We wanted to create a festive atmosphere, and Ilya helped us realize this idea"
