After the triumph of the 78th festival, which strengthened Cannes' status as the main film award legislator, expectations for the new season are especially high.
Last year, the film "Anora" won the "Golden Palm Branch," and then five "Oscars," including the "Best Film" award. Other competitive works — "The Substance", "Emilia Perez", "The Apprentice", and "The Seed of the Sacred Ficus" — also received awards.
The festival president, Iris Knobloch, and the general delegate, Thierry Fremo, presented the program, emphasizing that the Cannes mission is a platform for "dialogue with the world, embodying a bold, curious, and open France".
Out of a record 2,909 preliminary selection films, 19 films were included in the main competition. The program includes: Kelly Reichardt's new work "The Mastermind", Joachim Trier's "Sentimental Value" with Renata Raineswe, Ari Aster's "Eddington" with Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, and Emma Stone, Richard Linklater's "Nouvelle Vague" about the creation of Godard's "At Last Breath", Julia Ducurno's "Alpha", and Oliver Hermanus's "The History of Sound" with Josh O'Connor and Paul Meskal. Also, the films of the Dardenne brothers "Young Mothers" and Wes Anderson "The Phoenician Scheme" await viewers.
