According to Variety, the red carpet before the premiere was literally strewn with stars, reminiscent of the pre-pandemic Hollywood glamour era.
The film, starring Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Owen Wilson, Adrian Brody, and Timothy Shalame, ended with one of the festival's longest applause - for about nine minutes, the audience stood and honored the director and his team.
Not all project participants were able to attend the premiere: actress Lea Seidou was forced to miss the event due to a positive COVID-19 test.
The action takes place in a fictional French town, and the plot is built around three stories that embody reports from the pages of the "The French Dispatch" newspaper. According to Anderson, this film is his love letter to journalism, although ironically, the director refused to hold a traditional Cannes press conference.
The premiere of "The French Dispatch" was supposed to take place back in 2020, but was postponed due to the pandemic. In Russia, the film is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2021.
