The international jury selects a temporary art project every two years. Initiated in 2020 in memory of art critic and curator Werner Fenz (1944-2016), the competition is open to national and international artists whose projects touch upon the cultural and political context of the city of Graz (Austria).

The grant is awarded every two years by the city of Graz and the steirischer herbst festival. It amounts to 17,000 euros, of which 12,000 euros are for the project implementation, and 5,000 euros are for the artist's fee.

The winning project is selected by an international jury of five members: one represents the organizers, two are nominated by the steirischer herbst festival, and two by the Graz City Department of Culture.The winner will be announced in January 2026, with the official presentation of the project taking place within the framework of steirischer herbst '26 (September-October 2026).
