"Saodat Ismailova is an Uzbek film director and artist who developed as an author during the post-Soviet era. Her films weave rituals, myths, and dreams into the fabric of everyday life, exploring the historically complex and multi-layered culture of Central Asia. Often based on oral stories featuring women as main characters, her works address knowledge systems displaced by globalized modernity. These mind-expanding works balance the visible and invisible worlds," states the Art Basel Awards website.
Her new film "Melted into the Sun" is presented at the Nebula collective exhibition, organized by the In Between Art and Film Foundation as part of the 2024 Venice Art Biennale.
