The star of the films "The Godfather" and "Serpico" met with the pontiff in Vatican on Monday.
"We are proud to announce that this morning His Holiness Pope Leo XIV received a delegation from the film "Maserati: Brothers," which included Oscar winner Al Pacino and film producer Andrea Yervolino, in a private audience at the Apostolic Palace"
Yervolino said in a statement.
The meeting was a moment of deep spiritual and cultural inspiration focused on the shared values underlying both the Catholic Church and the film: family unity, love, compassion, and the importance of contributing to the common good, the text says.
"These values, which Pope Leo XIV consistently emphasizes in his recent addresses to the world, find deep resonance in the history of the Maserati brothers - a family whose legacy was built not only on innovation and striving for perfection but also on deep mutual respect, solidarity, and shared vision for the future".
Al Pacino's new film
The veteran actor, who is now 85 years old, is currently in Italy to film Maserati: Brothers, a biographical drama starring Anthony Hopkins, Andy Garcia, and Jessica Alba. The film tells the story of the Mazerati brothers, who played a key role in the establishment of the luxury sports car industry.
The actor's connection with Italy
As a reminder, Al Pacino has Italian roots, but he was born in the US. His most famous role - Michael Corleone in "The Godfather" - is built around the Italian-American mafia family.
