According to a statement published on the Pakistani government's official X social media page, Trump deserves international recognition for his "resolute diplomatic intervention" and "fundamental leadership" in the process of de-escalation of tensions between the two South Asian nuclear powers.
Against the backdrop of the threat of full-scale war, Donald Trump acted as an informal mediator. He held a series of phone calls and meetings with representatives of both sides, which, according to Pakistani authorities, became a turning point in containing the conflict and returning the parties to dialogue.
"President Trump demonstrated great strategic foresight and outstanding state wisdom by conducting parallel negotiations with both Islamabad and New Delhi," the statement notes.
On the night of May 7, the Indian army announced the start of the "Sindur" operation "against terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan." The escalation of the conflict was preceded by the Pakhalgam attack. Later, Donald Trump announced that the parties, through Washington's mediation, had agreed on a complete and immediate ceasefire. The parties confirmed the agreement.

Who receives the Nobel Peace Prize and for what?

The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded annually to individuals or organizations that have made significant contributions to strengthening peace, developing human rights, combating violence, and promoting diplomacy. Most often, the nominees are human rights activists, international organizations (such as the UN, WHO, Doctors Without Borders), political leaders who have succeeded in ending conflicts, as well as figures advocating for climate justice and social transformations. In recent years, the prize has also been awarded for contributions to combating pandemics, protecting freedom of speech, and promoting democracy.

A precedent for Trump

Donald Trump had previously been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, but this is the first time an official government has openly nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize in connection with the settlement of an international conflict.
