Earlier this February, the ballet had a major premiere at the Bolshoi Theatre. The production is based on the legend of King Shahryar and also draws on famous tales of Sinbad the Sailor, the Roc Bird, Aladdin and Princess Budur, and Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves.
In One Thousand and One Nights, fantasy and reality are interwoven with imagination, genuine emotion and passion. The endless struggle between masculine and feminine forces ultimately finds reconciliation in the finale. Through the wisdom, wit and eloquence of the beautiful Scheherazade, the formidable Shahryar comes to understand that true love and fidelity exist.
The ballet impresses audiences not only with its music and choreography, but also with its sumptuous sets, fully immersing viewers in the magical world of the ancient East.
