The first International Biennale of Contemporary Art will open in Bukhara

Bukhara Biennale is the first major international forum of contemporary art in Bukhara.

Biennale theme: "Recipes for Broken Hearts". The concept is inspired by the legend of how Avicenna invented a special dish to console a ruler - a symbol of healing through art and collective creativity.

Dates: from September 5 to November 20, 2025.

At the Biennale, more than 70 art projects will be presented, created in collaboration with contemporary artists and craftsmen from Uzbekistan and Central Asia. Visual installations, crafts, textiles, performances, music, poetry, architectural interventions, workshops, symposiums, and much more will also be shown.

Platform: the historical center of Bukhara, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.

Locations: cultural-historical sites — Khodja-Gavkushon ensemble, Ayozjon, Ahmadjon, Fotulladzhon caravanserais, Rashid madrasah, Kalyan minaret, Magoki-Attori mosque, Fayzulla Khodjaev House Museum, and others.

Operating hours of the facilities: From Tuesday to Sunday: in September from 10:00 to 22:00; in October–November — until 20:00. Outdoor exhibitions are available 24/7.

The event is organized by the Uzbekistan Foundation for the Development of Culture and Arts. The commissioner of the project is Gayane Umerova, the curator is Diana Campbell, the architect is Wael Al Awar, the winner of the Venice Biennale's "Golden Lion".
