Fania Dedeneva is an artist and ceramicist who grew up in orphanages and entered university at the age of 69. HD magazine spoke to her about turning pain into art.
The new featured artist in our Community section is Fania Dedeneva. We find her artistic journey fascinating, both as a story of her craft and as an example of how creativity can give life meaning and direction.
Fania’s creative journey began with the tragic loss of her family. She grew up in orphanages and dreamed of going to university, but was forced to work instead. These experiences did not break her. Instead, they led her towards creativity, where she could live out her pain.
Today, Fania Dedeneva is not only an artist but also a teacher. She is still studying at university, works with children from care homes, runs workshops and works at the Museum of the History of Tashkent.
“When you work and study, you learn more and can give more to children. I need that, and I would like to keep studying,” says Fania Dedeneva.
