New Details about Leni Riefenstahl: Joining the NSDAP After Hitler and the Struggle for Vindication

This Wednesday saw the release of the documentary podcast episode Doc Talk — “Riefenstahl Director Andres Veiel”.
Veiel went into detail about the campaign that Riefenstahl had been leading for decades, trying to prove that her work supposedly had no connection to Nazi ideology.

According to the director, this "struggle for justification" was built on skillful manipulation in interviews, contemporary memoirs, and even on controlling access to archival materials.

"She masterfully shifted the narrative," notes Waiel. "But behind her statements about 'pure art' there always stood a political agenda. And in this lies an important lesson for the present: how artists can — or cannot — be held accountable for what they create."
