The first movie from Central Asia is released on Netflix

A historic event for Kazakhstan's cinema: the film "The Truce" (La Tregua) will become the first movie from the country to be featured on the international platform Netflix.

The project was created in a co-production between Kazakhstan and Spain and is dedicated to a little-known page of history — the fates of Spaniards who found themselves in the Kazakh KarLAG during the years of Stalin's repressions.

The plot centers around the encounter of Spanish prisoners and a Kazakh intellectual, trying to preserve humanity in inhumane conditions.

The film was directed by Miguel Ángel Vivas, known for the series "Money Heist" (La Casa de Papel). The cast includes actors from both countries: Miguel Herrán, Arón Piper, Dina Tasbulatova, Altynai Nogerbek, and others.

The filming took place in Spain and Kazakhstan, which helped preserve the authenticity of the historical context. The movie premiere in Kazakhstan is scheduled for late fall 2025, after which "The Truce" will appear in the Netflix catalog.
