The Russian Theater in Tashkent returns to its audience after almost two years

For almost two years, the stage remained without an audience — the reconstruction began in the spring of 2024 and was completed only at the beginning of 2026. For theater fans, this event became one of the most anticipated in the city's cultural life.

The theater's return to full operation will be marked by several performances at once. Already on February 7 and 8, the first shows will take place, officially opening the 91st theater season. The starting point will be the premiere of the production "Don't Part With Your Loved Ones" — a title that many audience members perceived as a symbolic address to the public, who patiently awaited the opening.

The February program promises to be particularly eventful. According to the theater, on February 13, the audience will be presented with the premiere of the play "Tales of Melpomene," on February 14, the classic "The Bourgeois Gentleman" will be shown on the renovated stage, and on February 15, another premiere will take place — "Trouble from a Tender Heart."

During the renovation, the theater rarely shared official comments about the completion deadlines, which caused concern among regular patrons and the theater community. On social media and specialized cultural platforms, questions about the future of the stage were repeatedly raised. Now these doubts have been dispelled: the theater is returning to active work, and tickets for the first performances have already gone on sale.

Amid positive news, another important issue in the country's theatrical life remains unresolved. The Youth Theater of Uzbekistan, closed for renovation back in January 2022, has still not resumed work on its historic stage. Despite this, the troupe continues rehearsals and is preparing new projects—among them the plays "Behind Closed Doors," "The Top Hat," and "Barmaley."

Experts note that the return of the Russian Theater could become a significant impetus for the entire cultural sphere of Tashkent and increase public interest in the fate of other theatrical venues in the country.
