The Centre for Contemporary Arts Tashkent Named Among TIME’s World’s Greatest Places
The Centre for Contemporary Arts Tashkent (CCA) has been included in TIME magazine’s annual list of the World’s Greatest Places. The list is compiled based on nominations from the publication’s international network of correspondents, as well as submissions through an open application process.
The selection includes hotels, cruises, restaurants, attractions, museums, parks, and other destinations, each recognised for offering new and exciting experiences.
The Centre is housed in an industrial building constructed in 1912, formerly a diesel power station and tram depot designed by the architect Wilhelm Heinzelmann. The historic site was renovated by the Paris-based architecture studio Studio KO.
TIME’s recognition highlights growing international attention to Uzbekistan’s cultural life following the debut of the Bukhara Biennial in autumn 2025. Previously, the Center was also included in Hypebeast’s Must-Visit Museum Openings 2026.
The Centre’s Artistic Director and Chief Curator is Sara Raza, who previously worked at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York and Tate Gallery in London.
The opening of the Centre for Contemporary Arts Tashkent was initially scheduled for 21 March; however, the date has been postponed due to events in the Persian Gulf region. The organisers emphasised that the safety and well-being of participants and guests remain their top priority. A new opening date will be announced later.
