Prestigious Venice Film Festival Opens on the Adriatic Coast

The main prize of the festival is the "Golden Lion", which is most often awarded to films - contenders for an "Oscar". This year, this prestigious award was presented to the famous film actor George Clooney for his contribution to cinema. This became the main event of this year's film festival.

The press, studio executives, and actors who flock to the Lido every September are the people on whom the fate of big films truly depends. For ordinary viewers, it's a rare opportunity to see world premieres in stunning settings – days or weeks before the films are released anywhere else.

The 83rd Venice Film Festival opened with the premiere of Danny Boyle's film "Ink" about the transformation of the British newspaper The Sun into the country's best-selling tabloid. Dozens more premieres will take place until September 12: both newcomers and renowned directors, recognized as living legends of cinema, will showcase their new films. This year, the winner will be chosen by a jury led by actress and director Maggie Gyllenhaal. In total, the film festival has 5 juries : "Venice 83", "Orizzonti", "Premio Venezia Opera Prima "Luigi De Laurentiis", "Venice Immersive" and "Venice Classics".

The extensive festival program includes Lance Oppenheim's "Prime Time", Florian Zeller's "The Bunker", Martin McDonagh's "Wild Horse Nine", Werner Herzog's "The Devil's Bastard", Casey Affleck's "The Company", documentaries about Elon Musk, films by Palestinian directors, and others. Films are screened in their original language with Italian and English subtitles. The official awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, September 12, 2026, during the awards ceremony.
