Yesenin House Museum in Tashkent Has Been Closed for a Year Since Renovation Began

Tashkent residents have initiated a petition to Saida Mirziyoyeva, head of the Presidential Administration, requesting her to oversee the restoration of the Sergei Yesenin House-Museum. The museum was closed for major renovations in autumn 2025, with plans to reopen on December 31, but remains inaccessible until September 2026, according to Podrobno.uz.

The initiators of the appeal report the alarming condition of the building. Its roof has been removed, the walls are stripped of plaster, and mold traces have appeared on the surfaces. According to activists' observations, active repair work on the site is practically not being carried out, which is especially dangerous with the approaching season of autumn rains and cold weather.

The Tashkent city administration previously stated that the repairs are being conducted under the supervision of the Cultural Heritage Agency and the Scientific Expert Council, that the work complies with the requirements for cultural heritage sites, and that the building is not in danger. However, citizens demand answers: why the museum did not open on time, what work has been completed, and when the restoration is planned to finish.

"The Sergey Yesenin House-Museum is part of Tashkent's cultural memory," the initiators of the appeal emphasize.

For decades, the museum has been visited by schoolchildren, students, teachers, and poetry enthusiasts. In their collective appeal, the authors request an objective inspection of the building's condition, ensuring the completion of restoration in compliance with cultural heritage preservation requirements, and protecting the structure from precipitation until the work is finished.
