Gala Classical Concert to Open Tajikistan’s New National Theatre
On 23 October, the stage of Tajikistan’s new National Theatre will host the Marvoridnavo concert (“Pearls of the Classics”), marking the 35th anniversary of the country’s independence. This is the first major public event within the walls of the cultural institution built in central Dushanbe, asiaplus reports.

The programme will be presented by artists of the S. Ayni Tajik State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre under the baton of conductors Anvar Shoymurodov and Hobart Earle from Venezuela. People's Artist of Tajikistan Rustam Duloev and pianist Samir Abdurazakov, as well as opera singer Veronika Dzhioeva, are taking part in the concert.
The repertoire includes the third movement of Sergei Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto performed by Abdurazakov, as well as arias from operas by Puccini, Verdi, Dvorak, Kalman and other composers. A separate place is given to works by Tajik authors: “Respublikai man” by Sharofiddin Sayfiddinov and a contemporary piece for choir.
“This hall was created with care for classical music, and that can be felt,” said maestro Hobart Earle, who first visited the hall in May and returned in August to inspect the finished premises.
According to the theatre's director, Kamoliddin Sayfiddinzoda, the concert is for the company “both a joy and a serious examination”. Chief choirmaster Sharifbek Barotov notes that the choir has been reinforced with soloists of the opera company to achieve a “powerful and grand sound”.
The new National Theatre is a complex 34.5 metres high with a main hall seating 2,500 and two multifunctional halls seating 1,000 each. The building is located in the Ismoili Somoni district next to the National Museum and the State Flag Park.
