The Round-the-Square WalkThe Round-the-Square WalkToday, we are strolling past two of Tashkent's most iconic landmarks: the central Square, now sadly stripped of its century-old trees, and Tashkent's nearly eighty-year-old clock tower, which not so long ago acquired an unsightly "restaurant" addition that badly disfigured its appearance. Until quite recently, people arranged to meet beneath the clock tower, whether for a casual meeting or a romantic rendezvous. Today, although its chimes can still be heard, it is hard to imagine anyone waiting there for a loved one. Our walk today will take us through the mahallas of Kashgar, Mustaqillik, Shahrisabz, Nefor City, home to the Palace of International Forums and Bolajon Park of Culture and Recreation, and Sharaf Rashidov.
