“The White Ship”: A Tragic Story of Childhood Dreams and the Cruelty of the Adult World

On 16 October, the Kazakh State Academic Theatre for Children and Youth named after Gabit Musrepov in Almaty will stage “Aq Keme” (“The White Ship”), based on a work by Chingiz Aitmatov, Freedom Ticketon reports.

“The White Ship”: A Tragic Story of Childhood Dreams and the Cruelty of the Adult World

The production tells the story of a boy living among mountains and forests in a world of his own fantasies and fairy tales. He dreams of the distant White Steamship and believes in the stories his grandfather Momun tells him. A child's faith in goodness and justice collides with the harsh reality of adults, where mercy, indifference and cruelty exist side by side.

Director Dina Zhumabayeva turns to one of Aitmatov's most poignant works - a story about the fragility of a child's soul, the power of imagination and the tragic consequences of human weakness in the face of evil. The production is a reminder of how important it is to preserve the capacity for compassion and not to betray one's own moral principles.
