So Close and Yet So Far: Cinema in Conversation with Filmmakers from YakutiaTurkic culture is far broader than it is typically described as being in Central Asia. A vivid example of this is the Republic of Sakha, also known as Yakutia, whose people — the Sakha — share traditions, language, and legends remarkably similar to our own. Today, Yakutian cinema is watched the world over: films are released in wide distribution, whilst directors and producers are in negotiations over co-productions with leading film studios across the globe.
