The main venue of the festival in Uzbekistan will be Tashkent: screenings here will take place from October 2 to 5 at the Alisher Navoi Cinema Palace ("Panorama") and at the Kinoxona cinema.
The festival will open with the documentary David Teboul's "François Truffaut: The Script of My Life" (2024). The film is compiled from unpublished interviews and letters from Truffaut to his friend Claude de Givray, in which the director dictated drafts of his own autobiography. This is a rare chance to "hear" the author of the French New Wave himself, whose films reflected a personal story of growing up, searching for intimacy, and striving for freedom. Director David Teboul will personally present his film.
What else is in the festival program?
"The Last Metro" (1980) is a cult film by Truffaut, awarded ten César Awards. The action unfolds in occupied Paris during World War II: a theater becomes a refuge for a Jewish director in hiding and simultaneously — a symbol of resistance, where art confronts fear and censorship.
"Maya, Think Up a Name for Me" (2024) — a new animated work by Michel Gondry, where a child's fantasies transform into cardboard worlds. Everything that the little heroine Maya imagines, her father turns into cardboard tales: an ocean of ketchup, squirrels in hammocks, and other whimsical images. At Berlinale 2025, the film won the award for best artistic picture for a young audience.
"Jane Austen Ruined My Life" (2024) is an ironic romantic comedy about the search for true love. A French woman named Agatha goes to an English writer's residency, dreaming of inspiration and new beginnings, only to end up entangled in a story straight out of the pages of a Jane Austen novel.
"The Jim Romance" (2024) — a drama by Arnaud Larrieu about how strangers become family and what happens when the past catches up. So, the hero Émeric meets his pregnant former colleague Florence, who finds herself completely alone. Émeric is present at the birth of Florence's son, and they begin to live as a family, raising the boy. However, everything changes when Jim's biological father, Christophe, comes to see them.
