Residents of the US, the UK, Canada and other countries celebrate Halloween every year on the night of 31 October to 1 November. On this day it is customary to dress up as creatures of the night: vampires, witches, zombies and horror film characters, figures from myths and scary stories. Children go from door to door in search of sweets, adults hold themed parties, and guests are greeted by decorations in the form of a pumpkin with “glowing” eyes. In Uzbekistan the holiday is not marked on the same scale as in the US, but it is just as much fun. Here is a guide to getting ready for Halloween.
Costume: put it together yourself or rent one
An outfit for Halloween does not always have to be a fancy-dress costume. The simplest look can be put together from everyday clothes. To do this, choose a character from a film or cartoon, for example, Bella’s look from “Twilight”. You will need jeans, a checked shirt, a T-shirt and a backpack as an accessory. Besides characters from films, you can create a retro-style look, for example, from the film “The Great Gatsby”. Dresses like that are sure to be found in your wardrobe. For fans of informal styling, the looks of the characters from the film “Freaky Friday”, the cartoon “Hotel Transylvania” and favourite anime will work.
For complex looks, for example, an angel, a witch, Dracula, fantasy characters, you will need additional items of clothing, accessories and shoes. Such outfits are usually made to order or rented. Given that cosplay in Uzbekistan is actively developing today, cosplayers are appearing who are ready to create a look for a fee.

Halloween make-up: SFX yourself or with the help of a professional
Make-up is chosen to match the outfit and planned in advance. For simple looks, nude or evening make-up or “Hollywood” (winged eyeliner and red lipstick) will do. For more complex ones: face paint, SFX make-up.
SFX make-up (Special Effects Makeup) is known as prosthetic make-up. It is used in film and theatre to create coloured skin, cuts, scars and other small visual effects.
How to do face paint at home
Some elements of face paint can be recreated at home. To create coloured skin (green, blue, purple, red and other shades), mix eyeshadow of the chosen colour with foundation. Ideally the foundation should be the lightest shade. Using a cosmetics spatula, scrape a little dry eyeshadow onto a palette. Mixthe required amount of foundation with the eyeshadow on a metal palette (if you do not have one, you can use disposable tableware, an artist’s palette, or the lid of an eyeshadow pack without a mirror).
If the resulting shade does not match what you had in mind, add the required amount of dry eyeshadow. Once you get the right colour, apply it to the face, hands, neck and other parts of the body. For staying power, set it with a fixing spray, for example, from L’Oreal.
Dry eyeshadow a shade darker is used for contouring. The most important thing is that it has a suitable texture, preferably soft and silky, for application and blending. If there is not enough colour, mix the same eyeshadow with a small amount of black (you can pick up two different shades with a brush). In this way, darken the desired areas on the face. Choose a highlighter at your discretion, as well as eye make-up.
There are also special ready-made products - theatrical face paint. Most often it is cream-based, and comes in sticks or in a palette with other shades. The formula is creamy and does not require dilution. Such products can be found from the brands Mehron, Kryolan. It is best to order through delivery services Globbing, Boxette, Meest or buyers.

Hair: colouring, creating volume in the hair to match the look
Creating a hairstyle will take more time if it is an elaborate updo or colouring. Coloured hair chalks, sprays and a wig can help change the colour temporarily. A wig - a light and convenient option: the curls can be styled, set with hairspray, and worked into an elaborate hairstyle. A wig will not stain clothes the way chalks or sprays can. Hair glitter is sold in any cosmetics shop, both dry and with a gel.
There are plenty of instructions online for styling hair at home. If you are afraid of damaging your hair, turn to the professionals, for example Premium Beauty Studio, Karolina Gorodnyaya's studio, or Diana.
Getting ready for Halloween at home - not an easy task, but entirely doable. The main thing - to choose a character or create a custom one. Find make-up and hairstyle tutorials for Halloween online. Theatrical costumes can be rented, and if you want something special - take a sketch or reference and go to a tailor's shop, to cosplayers.
Halloween is made for fun. Grab your costumes and head to the party!
