Shuhrat Abdumalikov was born in 1970 in Samarkand. An interest in theatre and the visual arts, which manifested itself in his early years, largely determined the trajectory of his subsequent creative development. In 1989, having graduated from the Tashkent Art College named after P. P. Benkov, he continued his studies at the Department of Theatrical Design at the Theatre and Arts Institute. A particularly formative influence on the artist was the school of Georgy Robertovich Brim — one of the foremost reformers of stage design in Uzbekistan.

Early Practice
As fate would have it, Abdumalikov became one of the master's last and most cherished pupils, inheriting the principles of his artistic school. Shuhrat Abdumalikov's professional career began during his student years, when he worked as a production designer at the Tashkent Theatre for Young Audiences and the Abror Hidoyatov Theatre. Upon graduating from the institute, he continued his professional path as a lecturer in the Department of Theatrical Design, where he eventually became a professor and one of the leading mentors of young scenographers.

Scenography as Artistic Environment
Abdumalikov's artistic method is grounded in the perception of scenography as an autonomous plastic system. Spatial composition, colour resolution, and the lighting score together shape not only the visual image of a production, but also its emotional and conceptual structure, transforming the stage space into an active participant in the dramatic action.

Painting is an integral part of Shuhrat Abdumalikov's creative practice. Exploring the plastic and conceptual possibilities of colour, form, and composition, the artist creates works in which emotional expressiveness, symbolic language, and a personal interpretation of reality converge.
